The Bikes leave town is one of a series of lino cut bike art which I'm doing. The series, over all, is titled, That which we are denied. My aim is to celebrate the stately sit-up bikes which are ridden all over Europe. These bikes, as yet rare in Australia, as well as being practical transportation, are superb presentational devices for the human body in motion. They are that which is denied because, to achieve the freedom and elegance of the European ride, they need to be ridden without a helmet which is, as yet, not legal in Australia I hope when it is realized what we are missing out on, and my art shows it, change will come. In the meantime, due to the stifling situation, some bikes have decided to tale the Moonfinder and fly away to friendlier cycle ways. Each copy of The Bikes leave town is hand modified in some way so all prints are actually originals
