A tribute to Herbert John (Bert) Hinkler. Born at Bundaberg in 1892 he served as a pilot during World War 1 and later as test pilot with Avro, a leading aircraft manufacturer at that time. In 1928 he made the first solo flight from England to Australia, and in the following years other record-breaking flights. He was killed in 1933 when his Puss Moth crashed in the Italian Alps during an attempt on the England-Australia record. The principal types of aircraft that Bert Hinkler flew are featured in this acrylic artwork.
