Michael Huppatz
Michael Huppatz is a visual artist who engages in a range of styles, media and techniques, although recurring images and themes can be found.
The majority of his work is painting with oils and acrylics, but he also experiments with methods such as tea and coffee staining.
Michael is also a printmaker and his prints and drawings are sometimes accentuated with collage, cotton stitching or plastics that he has printed on.
He has exhibited his work in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, London and regional galleries.
His art practice sometimes uses images from nature which are then manipulated and abstracted. For the past number of years however, his work has become more figurative and has meditated upon the notion of 'the other' perceived by different sectors of the community. This has been applied to various subjects such as religious fundamentalism, the validity of war, population growth, and Australian's attitudes toward asylum seekers. These issues are always tempered with a dose of humour, something that Michael sees is somewhat lacking from much contemporary art.
