Cathyann Coady has created paintings that boldly explore varying spatial and compositional elements, like contrasting three-dimensional form with flat pattern, or as in Marilyn 9 fusing both techniques beneath a clouded blue sky. In some works fields of even colour divide the canvas, interlocking with other features like the gradually dissolving animal print in Marilyn 4, abstracted beyond its original form.
It seems that through the act of painting Coady establishes questions, and relishes in finding their answers. While her work may touch on ancient sins of greed, vanity and idolatry – it is, perhaps fittingly a seductive journey that the viewer is taken along.
