Born in Africa - and lived and painted there until l980 she went on to London where originally influenced by the Impressionists, she worked and exhibited with the Royal Institue of Oil Painters, Britain's Painters, Society of Botanical Artists and many of the Art Clubs in and around the area. She was invited to The Worshipful Company of Painters, Otherwise Painter Stainers as a Freeman and to the Freedom of the City of London Painters Hall - she won the coveted award the Cornelissen Award, presented by HRH the Duchess of Kent at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Her work has been published as cards, prints, calendars, educational material for magazines and reference work in books "How to Paint and Draw" Also listed in the "Who's Who of Art" Book She painted in France a lot - the French influence coming out in a lot of the work. Laurie Sword is from Sydney’s Northern Beaches and has a background in graphic design. She has owned a successful design studio for 25 years. She has strong design and drawing skills, but has always loved painting as a relaxing escape. After thousands of commercial projects Laurie got tired of the deadlines and sitting behind a computer screen. She has always love dogs and cats so in 2009 she started painting her friends’ pets for a unique gift. They loved them, she loved doing them, and so ‘Picture your Pet’ idea was born. Laurie loves the character in dogs and cats faces, their texture and their wonderful expressions. Her portraits are painted on quality stretched canvas in acrylics. They are very realistic and capture a stunning likeness. She prefers simple and uncluttered backgrounds in strong rich colour, to feature the pet’s face. Laurie works from your emailed digital photographs. She paints any size from 40cm wide up to 120cm. Finished portraits are photographed and emailed to you for approval before delivery. Portraits take about 3 to 4 weeks, but timing can be negotiated based on need. Prices are on her website. Acrylic painting on canvas depicting a female Burchell's Zebra with her offspring. I painted this piece shortly after my mother passed away and tried to portray the special bond between mother and child. With my love of wildlife it seemed natural for me to convey my emotions using my art as a vehicle.
